When the banks look at your credit line on the credit card, they look at it as a potential amount that can be spent, so if your income went up in proportion with the higher credit line it won't hurt you, but if it affects your income to debt ratio then it may hurt it. The reason being you can one day go crazy and max out your card and your income can't support the monthly payments along with the mortgage or car payment, etc.

THAT WAS ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS! For all those you couldn't be bothered to read the whole lot, you missed out on the wittiest Question in Q&A ever!

Thank you for making me laugh so much. Absolutely great! You need to have this published! You're wasted on here! In fact I'm going to copy it and email it to my friends - help them all "have a nice day".

If you drive a lot of miles, the best credit card for gasoline and almost everything else is the Citi Driver's Edge Platinum Mastercard. If you sign up for the "miles you drive" rebates program (read the terms & conditions), you will effectively get 6% cash back on gasoline, groceries, and drug store purchases, and 2% cash back on everything else (it's the normal 3% and 1% doubled up by the "miles you drive"). You can redeem your cash back as a credit on your statement for car maintenance expenses or for buying a car, or redeem it as Citi ThankYou points (but for most people that is not as good as the statement credit).

Also there's currently a promotion that gives you 6% cash back on gasoline/groceries/drugs instead of the regular 3% for the first 12 months, so doubling that up with "miles you drive" you can actually get 12% cash back on gas/groc/drugs (but only for a year). You have to read and understand the terms & conditions to see exactly where these numbers come from. The link below will take you directly to the card's page.
